Not Peace but Division
49"I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed! 51Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."
so what the preacher talked about was the differnce between a mere beleiver and a disiple. He said that a true disiple would have conflict in their life with the non beleivers. conflict christ came to bring conflict between beleivers and non beleivers. bertween families and freinds - to be a true disiple of christ you must have conflict in your life. why then would you choose to walk that path a path of conflict? it was interesting to here this passage preached because historically peachers try and avoid it.... Byjoung didn't he said it must have a message for all of us. he never did see to figure out what the massage was - but he did try and gleem some insight from it - i think that he sort of desided the ever one needed to have the fire in them. because it was my Great-Grandfather's 90th birthday celebration that day, he had some stuff he had taken from my grandpa's house earlier in the week. Grandpa said that he just walked in and picked up a "wooden dust pan" then he walked over and took something else off a shelf - and said good bye cleirence andf walked out the door, "he didn't even shake my hand". that wodden dust pan was a korean plate of sorts .... and the the other thing he took was a prayer that read " god please help me to remeber that you won't send anything my way today that you and i together can't handle" the "dust pan" was given to my great-grandmother by the father of one the kids she watched when he got back from the korean war. hmmm there is sooo much history there - i wish i could spend some time with him while he can still see so that we can get it all written down.
it was an interesting day
