Despite the "A Diamond is Forever" propaganda from De Beers, and the well-known fact that a diamond is the hardest substance on Earth, diamonds are much more delicate than you'd think. They are fairly brittle, and can be scratched, burnt, crushed, and damaged in a number of ways.

As for knocking a stone loose from a platinum setting, seems like somebody was fucking around.

hmmm....I thought the only thing that would scratch a diamond was another diamond.

1. with another diamond or a substance harder than a diamond.

2. try real hard. it's not indestructible, just really solid.
