Ashtanga Yoga: Beginner's Practice
Jul. 15th, 2008 10:57 pmSo i have been exploring the netflix "fitness" dvd's - as i am very picky about the yoga and belly dance dvd's on the market yes i am a snob and i don't want to waste what little monies i hav e on advd i'm going to hate
A few years back at the height of my yoga pratice i attempted an Ashtanga class...... i kicked my ass i lasted all of 15 in to the class and as expected by the instuctor i was frusterated very out of breath and pissed off. I had not started witha a bigner class and the instuctor and i agreeded that i knew my limits and would stop before i hurt myself phyically or other wise.
For those who do not know ... Ashtanga yoga is ahot yoga and by hot i mean even int he summer time here they bring in raidiators and heat the room and there are normally about 15 ish people in a room. add to this that you "lock" meaning contract your perineum and lower abs and goin areas continually thru the 90 min class, Plus you do the "darth vader" bretheing which involves a "chin lock" you contract your throat just enought to make the hissing noise and only breathe thru your nose. For those of you wonder ing what the breathing does it heats up your body just try the breathing part for get the other locks . All of this to heat up your body. then ..... you move to a new position every time you breathe in or out.
and here is the youtube for advanced astanga VERY advanced ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixRW3JbE1Dc
Ashtanga Yoga: Beginner's Practice this video how ever has reall restored my faith that eventually i too can the amazing fluid movments it wil like every thign take time.
100% recomend this to any one who is thinking baout learning ashtanga as a beginers intro you can do it at home in a cool room with out the evil locks and breathing
And on a semi related note my cat really was intreiged by the yoga in the living room he tried to show us how several times which mostly landed me on the giggleing b/c his tail was tickling my nose
